i love, love, love, love you

Thoughts and study of the concept of love.

Different types of LOVE

“Phileo” Love-
this is like Philadelphia- the city of brotherly love. this is the kind of love that exists between close family members and friends (like King David and Johnathan). it is the kind of love that is of a close, deep, and kindred relationship with another.

“Eros” Love-

this is the love that is about sex- between a man and a woman. however, there is nothing sinful about eros love as long as it is for marriage.

“Stergein” Love-
This is the most common love in family relationships. it is not a passionate love, but carries strong between family members.

“Agape” Love-
this is the ultimate self-sacrificing kind of love. it is the kind of love that God had when He laid down His life for us. this is the kind of love that is always associated with God. agape is not the kind of love that has human origin.

1 John 4:8 “Anyone who does not love (agape) does not know God, because God is love (agape).”

Romans 5:5 “and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love (agape) has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

John 10:17 “For this reason the Father loves (agape) me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again.”

2 Peter 1:17 “For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved (agapetos) Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

John 21:20 “Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved (agapao) following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?”

Abba, Father, thank you for having an agape love for me. Help me to show your unconditional, never-ending love to others.
